How Editing Works with Tamelynda

My specialty is copy/line editing (steps 3 and 4 on the infographic below). However, I have done a number of developmental editing (step 2) projects which then flowed into copy/line editing. I also enjoy proofreading (steps 5 or 7). It's up to you to choose at which point in the life-cycle of the editing process you would like to begin working with me.

What you will find with my editing is that I am very detailed-specific. Several of my author clients have indicated that even though they have degrees in English and are proficient in their writing, they are glad they entrusted their manuscript to me because I picked up things they didn't see. How important is it for your book to be as good as it can be, as error-free as possible?

You will also find with my editing method that I am an assertive editor, making changes when needed and appropriate while also commenting and asking questions if there is something we need to discuss or I require clarification for. We communicate by email and Zoom, where I can share the screen and show the manuscript. This will benefit you because it's easy to understand when we look at the document and discuss it. Ultimately ALL changes are up to you the author. What impact would it have on you knowing that you are working with someone who really has cares about you and your message?

What is important to me is ensuring your voice is maintained because YOUR VOICE MATTERS. I am editing to elevate your message so that readers understand your message AND ensure grammar, punctuation, clarity, and flow are correct. Move Beyond Stuck - Help with chapter content

As you are writing, you may experience moments of being stuck. I can help you generate content for one chapter or several. In an interview format, we will have a conversation to explore your thoughts.
I'm the person who listens—to you. The questions I will ask will help clarify what it is you're attempting to put on paper.
Interviewing for clarity is something I've been doing for 30+ years. My experience came first as a career coach, then as a facilitator for business excellence and educational program development in corporate and non-profit worlds, as a life coach, and a hypnosis practitioner.
A published author and experienced editor, what matters most to me is providing support to help you reveal what it is you wish to write about. Your voice matters!
Process: 1:1 private interview via Zoom; session recorded and transcribed; notes provided regarding highlights from my perspective. You choose what is useful to your writing and continue from there.

Line Editing

Think of line editing as a line-by-line review instead of an overall manuscript critique. During the line editing process, I look for flow, tone and clarity, and will highlight problems such as run-on sentences, clichés and pacing.
Although punctuation and grammar are not the focus of a line edit, I often will do both at the same time. Usually, however, it's still necessary to have copy editing after a line edit.

Copy Editing

As a copy editor, I am reviewing content for punctuation, grammar, spelling and the project’s unique style or rules specific to your project and/or the publication to which you plan on submitting.
I am experienced with the following style guides: Chicago (CMoS), American Psychological Association (APA), Modern Language Association (MLA), Associated Press (AP), Christian Writer's, and American Medical Association (AMA).

Proofreading

In some respect, this could be considered similar to copy editing. The term refers to the hard-copy process where a “proof” — a test print of a book or other print publication that has been laid out, including graphics etc. — is given a final review before the project goes to print. This is best done after you've worked with a book formatting specialist.
The proofreading stage is your last chance to catch any misplaced apostrophes, typos and missing serial commas before your project is published.
While proofreading, I am also watching for layout issues such as unintentional extra spaces, missing bylines or incorrectly numbered pages.
